I used to follow a writing guru who seriously went off the rails for me.

When I first read his work, it resonated with me like no other. There was an immediate “I can do this” feeling in my gut. So, I devoured everything I could by this guy.

I even went to one of his events.

Soon after the shine wore off.

Conventional Wisdom Isn’t Necessarily Wise

Let’s face it. Anyone can repeat what they hear the experts say.

It’s a lot like riding a big wave because other people are. You’ll get a lift for a while, but when the wave lands, you get sand in your shorts and you’re worse off than when you got in the water.

I’ve always prided myself on being independent. I like doing things my way, no matter what other people say. Sometimes that pays off. Other times it’s like getting your ear bitten off in a boxing match.
