When you find yourself staring at the wall, willing ideas to come — and get nothing — it feels crippling.

When you’re stuck, it’s hard to see a way out. What you’ve done is turn the process of generating ideas into an unsolvable problem.

Writer’s block isn’t terminal — unless you decide it is. Here are three ways to transform your thinking and open up a well of ideas, no matter how long you’ve been stuck!

First, realize no idea is perfect.

Every aspiring writer’s dream is to write a viral blog post.

While there are things you can do to make that happen, you can’t count on them as guarantees.

I have pretty high standards for myself. If I let them get the best of me, I’ll spend an eternity brainstorming and polishing in a vicious cycle, hoping that the ultimate idea will emerge.

What really happens?

I wrote my best post ever in half an hour on a whim. The rest have varying levels of success with readers. Use the stats to learn what works and what doesn’t. But don’t obsess over them.
