Back in 2018, a writer friend gave me the book The Artist’s Way.

I’d never read anything like it before. They never talked about it in any of my art classes in college. My professors told me art was something to be appreciated, but it wouldn’t make you rich.

Frankly, I thought that sentiment sucked rotten eggs.

I quit school and started work. Yet the persistent urge to write never left me alone.

Can I write stuff that matters?

Once I started calling myself an artist, my whole life changed.

I started showing people my drawings. Most were amazed. “Wow” was the most common response.

Looking back, I should have taken that praise and run with it.

But I didn’t. Something inside me, my inner critic, would tell me I was crazy to even entertain such an idea. “You’re not really that good. Who do you think you are? Can you really ask people for money to draw stuff? I mean, come on. They’ll never pay you to do that.”
