I’ve tried to help people solve problems. But I learned that some don’t want their problems solved. They just want to vent. By listening, I meet their needs.

At some point, listening gets old and ineffective. You’re not responsible for that person. She is. Her decisions will shape her life, so she must make them.

Tough love is hard to give because it seems cold. But a kick in the pants that moves someone in the right direction is a better expression of love in the end.
