People sometimes believe what they are told, but they never doubt what they conclude.

You’re absolutely right. People resist when you try to jam your opinion down their throats. We all want to believe we’re right. And when someone tells us we’re wrong, it’s only natural to resist.

It’s better to tell a story that illustrates your point. Then the other person can see himself in it and draw his own conclusions.
