That is a tough one.

My wife’s family had a similar situation with her brother. He has abused drugs and alcohol since he was a teenager. He blames us for all his problems, though in truth they’re his fault. He wants us to bail him out whenever he gets in a jam and accept him no matter how he behaves.

His dad was his most sentimental supporter, but even he has tired of the abuse.

Finally, after decades of the same old thing, we quit helping him.

He no longer speaks to any of us.

It’s a relief, and a shame.
